change is challenging
we're happy to help you grow
It's a pretty remarkable thing...
to wake up everyday and be excited to go to work. It's both the dream, and a privilege.
I've always loved science. Particularly physiology, anatomy and all of its glorious connections. I absorb everything that I can on the subject; courses, case studies, experiences and experiments. I make games and play out of movement and, if you ever need to phone-a-friend for Friday night trivia; I'm your girl.
I chose Massage Therapy originally to compliment my Exercise Physiology background, but have since discovered that both modalities compliment each other magically. Magic, as we know it is the art of change. I've come to discover that I can perform a different kind of magic.
I can bring joy to someone’s day by helping them learn -and unlearn physiological patterns their body holds; teach them games and ways to make play, and the How, the Why and What To Do About It.
Alchemy, in its essence, is the process of transformation, paralleling the continuous changes within human anatomy and physiology. Just as alchemists sought to turn lead into gold, the body undergoes constant physiological transformations, converting raw materials like food and oxygen into energy, tissue, and cellular repair. In human biomechanics, massage therapy and stretch therapy serve as catalysts, mirroring the alchemical process. We see this process in action through the regeneration of cells, the healing of injuries, and the adaptation of muscles to new stresses.
Massage and stretch therapy also demonstrate this idea, "alchemizing" physical tension into relaxation and restricted movement into flexibility. These therapies initiate neurological responses, activating the body's innate ability to repair, release, and adapt. Just as gold retains its integrity through fire, the body remains resilient, consistently evolving through its own transformative processes.
This is what has lead me to rename my business "The Anatomy Alchemist™".
Your "lead" and transformative catalyst will differ from mine, uniquely shaped by your circumstances. Education and knowledge, for instance, can sometimes obstruct rather than facilitate progress (understanding your shit and overcoming your shit are two very different things), underscoring the variability of these transformative processes. No two bodies are ever the same, and thus; the variability is endless and infinite. This is why a cookie-cutter approach to treatment won't work.
Looking ahead, I plan to continue my studies and sharpen my focus in Somatic Experiencing Therapy™, Internal Family Systems, Behavioural Psychology, Linguistics and the Nervous System at large.
I want to know everything I can about the brain and how it affects and protects the motor control centres.
I have a passion for bettering the lives of others, and my mission, vision and philosophy are this;
My mission comes from the words of Jimmy Carter; “I have one life and one opportunity to make it count for something. The something I chose is my faith. Now, my faith goes beyond theology and religion and requires considerable work and effort. My faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I am, whenever I can, for as long as I can with whatever I have to try to make a difference."
My vision is to create a space where all humans feel safe and welcomed, to leave an interaction a little better and brighter than it was and to be a permanent shadow of positive light.
My philosophy is that every interaction provides you with an experience, a lesson and an opportunity for growth.
You get to choose what those will be.
I hope you got a bit of a chuckle out of this, and if your name makes its way in to my schedule, I look forward to making your acquaintance.
Always Grow, and Grow All Ways,
Yours in good health,
Steph
